Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier question?!!?
Lately we've been talking about symbolism in stories that we read. And one of the symbols in this story is Miss Lottie's marigolds. They're supposed to symbolize hope during the Great Depression. Can anyone explain to me why these are seen as a symbol of hope???

The marigolds are the only thing upon many that are beautiful and free. Everything else, as Lizabeth describes, is sad, grey, dusty, or makes her think poverty. Hope this.
