am i going through depression?

im only 16 but im so emotional and so sad all the time
i just feel so alone, like im trapped in this bubble. i dont really get along with my parents, theyre way too overprotective and it seems like im literally trapped. i cry like every day, sometimes over absolutely nothing. i barely sleep at night, and its my junior year in high school so im totally stressed out beyond belief....i have been goign through this for a while now, but it got so much worse after my grandma passes away this year (i was really close to her and she was the first person who was really important to me that i lost)

I'm sorry your grandma passed away. I am sure she loved you very much.

Your parents sound like they love you so much that are being overprotective. You have to talk to them and let them know what your needs are. It's very important that you are assertive and not argumentive to them. They have to learn that they have to give you some amount freedom as you get older and they can't be too restrictive. It was probably easier for them to order you around you were a little child but a teenager requires more independence and freedom. It's not an easy adjustment for them and they're afraid of what will happen if they give you too much freedom. Alleviate their fears by showing how mature, reliable, careful, smart and responsible you are and that you can take care of yourself.

You could try to talk to a doctor, counsellor or a teacher you trust at school for some help and support. They may be able to give you some advice on how to cope better with your situation.

It's essential that you get enough sleep, especially since you're a teenager. Most of the growth hormones are released while you sleep.

Try to make your day happier and less stressful. Prioritize and organize your school work and activities. Do your work at a regular basis and don't get procrastinate or you will end up with more work later.

Try to eat a healthy meal and three meals a day. If you're too tired and weak, that's not a good sign. Be sure to drink orange juice and healthy food.

Getting some exercise helps relieve tension and stress. If you can join some sports team or go swimming or jogging, etc, that would be good for you. Also, get involved in school activities and volunteer may also be good therapy for you. If you're part of team or group, you will not feel so alone.

It's natural to be sad about losing someone special to you. I'm sure she would've wanted you to be happy and not sad. Be the kind of person she would be proud of.

Don't lose faith. I'm sure many people care about you and you're important to them.
